What We Do

Columbia Musical Theatre Society (CMTS) is Columbia University’s oldest and only recognized student group that regularly produces musical theatre revivals.

Each year, CMTS produces approximately three mainstage productions. Past productions have included Head Over Heels, In the Heights, Sunday in the Park with George, Cinderella, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This semester, CMTS is producing three musicals, including Anastasia, Footloose, and REDACTED: The Untold (Un)True Story of Roswell, New Mexico: The Musical — the first ever production of First Stages, a new branch of CMTS dedicated to original, student-written musicals.

We additionally host a number of special events throughout the academic year. These have included 24 Hour Musical, where students commit to learning and performing a full length-musical within a period of 24 hours; Miscast, a cabaret where students have the opportunity to perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast; and Senior Showcase, an opportunity for graduating seniors to commemorate their time with CMTS.
